At 6:39 p.m. on Wednesday evening, UNC Information Technology Services reported a “significant” power outage affecting many parts of the school’s campus. The outage was determined to be due to an issue at the substation on West Cameron Avenue, near the intersection with Merritt Mill Road.

Numerous on-campus buildings reported outages, including Lenoir Dining Hall, Davis Library and the Undergraduate Student Union, where The Daily Tar Heel reported students were evacuated.

A UNC Electric Distribution Systems team restored power at the substation, along with most network services, at approximately 7:22 p.m. Several floors in the Steele Building, Brauer Hall, Gardner Hall, Sitterson Hall and Lenoir were still without power as of 7:22 p.m.
