Producing Artistic Director of the PlayMakers Repertory Company Vivienne Benesch has been named the 2017 Zelda Fichandler award winner by the Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation.

Benesch will receive a $5,000 grant from the award, which is presented to an individual committed to the arts who has made significant creative contributions to theatre in the U.S.

Benesch is in her second season at Playmakers and has directed many acclaimed productions including Molly Smith Metzler’s The May Queen, Deborah Salem Smith’s Love Alone, and John Logan’s Red.

The award is named after Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning director Zelda Fichandler who founded the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C.
