An alleged commercial marketing campaign designed to resemble a community water test is causing confusion among residents of Chatham County.

According to the municipal government, this campaign consists of flyers and phone calls that urge recipients to have their tap water or wells tested.

The flyers ask recipients to collect water samples with bottles that are attached, but they also state that the tests are “not affiliated with city water or county health departments.”

County officials have declared that the people responsible for this campaign are likely to be engaged in the sale of expensive water-related products.

Times-Call reported flyers from Clear Water Research LLC with identical language being distributed two years ago to residents of Longmont, Colorado.

Residents of Chatham County who have concerns about the quality of their water are encouraged to contact the water utilities office at 919-542-8270.
