More crosswalks around Chapel Hill will be taking on a unique design.

The crosswalk across Willow Drive near University Place was painted shades of blue and green earlier this year in an experiment hoping to make the crosswalks – and the pedestrians using them – more noticeable to passing motorists.

The “designer crosswalk” is now migrating to other portions of Chapel Hill.

Officials say new colorful crosswalks will soon be installed around downtown – on Cameron Avenue at Wilson Street, Rosemary Street at Henderson Street and Rosemary Street near Shortbread Lofts.

Construction is scheduled to finish on Friday evening to prepare the roadway for the project.

Town officials say the paint will be going down in the coming weeks.
