The recycling site at Carrboro Plaza will close permanently on July 28, according to the Orange County Government Newsletter. No replacement site has been named at this time.

The property management company cited need for additional parking, dumpsters and a planned expansion of the Monterrey Restaurant as the reason for the closure.

The remaining recycling drop off sites, located in Meadowmont Village, University Place, Cedar Falls Park and in Hillsborough in the Hampton Pointe Shopping Center, will remain open.

Orange County solid waste management officials say they plan to cooperate with the Town of Carrboro and property owners to open an alternative drop off site in Carrboro. Last year, nearly 1,900 tons of recyclables were collected from the five recycling drop off sites, including almost 500 tons from the Carrboro Plaza site.
