Monday morning marked the beginning of a new era for the Durham police force. Cerelyn Davis was sworn in as the new Durham Chief of Police.
Davis comes to Durham after nearly 30 years of service in the Atlanta Police Department as the deputy police chief. During the ceremonial swearing in, she made a brief speech where she outlined her plans to reach out to the community.
“I look forward to meeting with the community leaders and the administration in the next few days in order for us to set plans and guidance for this department to move forward.”
Davis replaces Jose Lopez, who retired last fall. There will be a public swearing in ceremony Friday evening at 6 p.m at the Carolina Theater.
