The Board of Orange County Commissioners has approved the renaming of the Central Orange Senior Center to the Jerry M. Passmore Center.
“How fitting to recognize Jerry with this honor, while he’s still living,” said Janice Tyler, director of the Department on Aging. “This tribute is representative of the years of dedicated service Jerry has given. He was a pioneer and visionary for aging services in our county, as well as North Carolina.”
Passmore was the Director of the Orange County Department on Aging from 1977 to 2010. During that time he developed and implemented two five-year master aging plans. These plans were the first of their kind in North Carolina.
“I am very honored and humbled by this recognition,” Passmore said. “Regardless of my name on the senior center, it is the dedicated and caring volunteers, advisory boards and staff at the center that are even more important.”
