Orange Rural Fire Department and other Orange County departments will be training with a practice fire the morning of February 13 in southern Hillsborough.
The fire will be performed at the former Southern Country Inn, 122 Daniel Boone St. They will only train on part of the structure, until asbestos can be removed from the rest of the building.
The public is welcome to watch the fire training but must stay behind the fire line perimeter, at a safe distance from the structure
“I would like to urge all citizens to come out and watch their firefighters at work in a semi-controlled environment,” Orange Rural fire chief Jeff Cabe said.
Both Chapel Hill and Carrboro fire departments will be in attendance.
In addition to practicing on the live fire, the fire departments also will practice rural water supply training by hauling water to the burn site with fire department tankers.
Orange Rural does not have a burn room for fire fighters to train with a live fire, so it relies on community members allowing them to train on buildings scheduled for demolition.
