CHAPEL HILL – Chapel Hill Town Council candidate, Maria Palmer, says she’s concerned about the town’s budget and, if elected, will address its shortfalls.

“We are spending more than we’re brining in, and we are rapidly using our reserves,” Palmer says. “We cannot continue laying off people or not replacing people who leave; town services will suffer.”

WCHL’s Ran Northam spoke with Palmer about her seeking election to the Town Council and how she believes she’ll best serve you.

Nine candidates are contending for four seats on the Town Council.

Palmer says she has three areas that need improvement to get the town’s budget back on track.

“We need to increase our commercial tax base,” Palmer says. “We need to look at what we’re spending and where we’re spending it. But, primarily, we need to develop Chapel Hill so that we have more density and more commercial development that can sustain the services we have.”
