The master-planned community of Briar Chapel by Newland announced a partnership with Blue Heron Asset Management to build one of Chatham County’s first large-scale apartment complexes last week.

The community, located off the 15-501 corridor near the border of Chatham and Orange County, will add a multi-family project to its existing neighborhood with the help of the private equity real estate development firm based out of Raleigh.

The Blue Heron apartments will entail 200 units situated across three, four-to-five-story buildings and a stand-alone centralized amenity building. Offerings will include one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments ranging in size from approximately 625 to 1,600 square feet and will feature design elements traditionally found in single-family homes, such as built-in bookshelves, separate dining areas and kitchen bars.

Mike Scisciani, who is the vice president of operations of Newland, the master developer of the community, shared his excitement in a release about the announcement.

“Few other apartment complexes in Chatham County have the benefit of a site with existing entitlements and infrastructure,” he said. “Briar Chapel offers both, which enables Blue Heron to create a large, urban multi-family complex not normally found in this area.”

In addition to the apartments, residents will enjoy a comprehensive offering of modern amenities. Briar Chapel plans to include a main club with an indoor/outdoor living, a state-of-the-art fitness area, a demonstration kitchen, a library, a community pool and thoughtfully programmed outdoor space around the complex. Lounges, coffee bars and pop-up workstations will be located in the lobbies of all three apartment complex buildings as well.

The Blue Heron Asset Management apartments will join Briar Chapel’s current residential footprint, which currently includes 1,900 built homes and is entitled for up to 2,500. It also includes a senior apartment complex and assisted living facility by Liberty Healthcare Management. The neighborhood’s design and incorporation of 500,000 square feet of commercial space has earned Briar Chapel the title of “Best Neighborhood in Chatham County” for four consecutive years.

“Blue Heron is thrilled to be building at Briar Chapel, where we’ll be bringing the best-in-class finishes and amenities common in urban apartment projects to a more laid-back, gracious and community-centered setting,” said Kevin Wade, project manager, Blue Heron Asset Management. “Residents will be able to enjoy the natural beauty of the Piedmont while maintaining a close proximity to the jobs and attractions in Chapel Hill, Durham, RTP and other hubs of activity in the Triangle.”

Construction on the apartment complex is slated to break ground in early 2020.
