A US Marshal investigation of a Chapel Hill man concluded with two vehicles on fire and the suspect in custody.

37-year-old Askire Deshun Edwards was arrested on Wednesday after warrants were issued in late March by Chapel Hill Police, according to a statement from authorities.

Edwards was charged with seven counts of Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Cocaine and seven counts of Sell and Deliver Cocaine. The charges stem from a year-long narcotics investigation involving Edwards.

During surveillance, Marshals identified the suspect in the area of Hatch Road and Warren Court in Chapel Hill.

Marshals then attempted to stop Edwards, and he rammed into the law enforcement vehicle. The crash caused both vehicles to catch fire.

Edwards was taken into custody after fleeing on foot.

Additional charges of Assault with a Deadly Weapon on a Government Official and Damage to Government Property are pending as a result of the crash.

Edwards is being held under a $100,000 secure bond in the Orange County Jail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
