CHAPEL HILL – Three local high school teams are gearing up for the third round of the NCHSAA State Playoffs Friday night.
The No. 2 seed Chapel Hill girls are 26-1 on the season and will host No. 11 seed Southern Guilford. The Tigers are coming off a 71-14 round-two victory, but the Storm has taken down a No. 6 and No. 3 seed so far in the tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Chapel Hill High School.
That game will be followed by the fourth meeting between the Chapel Hill and Webb boys. The No. 1 Tigers took down the Morehead Panthers 59-52 on Wednesday. It’s always been said it’s tough to beat a team three times—a feet that the Warriors will try to prevent. Tipoff between Chapel Hill and Webb is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
You can hear both games on 97.9 FM WCHL beginning at 6:00 p.m. Paul Connell, Julian Caldwell, and Art Chansky will have the calls from Chapel Hill High School.
The Northwood girls, who finished 2A Carolina 12 play undefeated, advanced in the state tournament as well. The Charges defeated the Cedar Ridge Red Wolves 47-37 and will host the Kinston Vikings Friday night. The Vikings also finished the regular season undefeated in the 2A Eastern Plains conference.
