UNC professors Jay Smith and Max Eichner speak with 97.9 The Hill’s Brighton McConnell about an open letter they wrote to share concerns about political interference in North Carolina’s higher education. The pair, along with more than 670 other UNC faculty, criticized proposed legislation by the North Carolina House of Representatives to “eliminate academic tenure” and require a new American history course be taught at all UNC System schools. Smith and Eichner also shared their thoughts on the general sentiment felt by UNC faculty as the 2022-23 academic year wraps up.
