Mark your calendars and prime your friends; Carrboro’s landmark bar and entertainment venue The Station is reopening its doors this week and you will want to be part of its next, great voyage.

When I moved to Carrboro over six years ago, The Station and its sister location Southern Rail were the first attractions that I saw and immediately pulled over to check out. Paying homage to Carrboro’s past, when it was called West End, the two locations originally served as the town’s train depot in the early 1900s. Sometime in the late 1900s, it made the switch and converted the old station and some repurposed train cars to became two of Carrboro’s most notable and eye-catching hangouts.

Always an attraction for local and visiting talent, seasoned artists and up-and-comers alike, The Station has been a welcoming venue for a variety of audiences and acts. That is why I was genuinely saddened to hear that The Station was closing in December 2015, but I am thrilled that it has come under the inspired new ownership of Andrew Moore, owner of Venable and B Sides. Moore has given the original location a thorough polishing and a fresh coat of paint, as well as reenergizing the drink menu.

The bar will be offering something for everyone, including craft cocktails made with seasonal and local ingredients, including a unique selection of house-made Bloody Marys. For craft been enthusiasts and casual beer drinkers alike, they are adding in a new keg system to offer a rotating variety of 10 beers on tap at a time, allowing for local, seasonal, and always tasty drafts.

The Station Open For Business

There are some events to truly get excited about this month as well:

  • On April 7th, The Station is opening its doors with Durham local Kamara Thomas, whose catchy tunes regularly draw comparisons to Fleetwood Mac and Neil Young with strokes of Tom Petty.
  • On April 8th, Transportation with Knurr and Spell will be performing, followed by DJ FIFI HI-FI + DJ MIKE D on April 9th.

The Station will also be featuring events beyond live music. Later this month, feel free to join them for their Gender Bender Dance Party/Drag Show, which will raise money for Burkina Faso Girl’s Scholarship Fund, and Not Your Grandma’s Bingo Night, which is raising funds for Orange County Rape Crisis Center.
