September is National Preparedness Month and North Carolinians are getting an early test with Tropical Strom Hermine approaching.
Hermine made landfall in Florida as a Hurricane early Friday morning.
Orange County Emergency Services officials are cautioning residents to be aware that the storm could bring heavy rains to our community. Forecasts say our area could receive anywhere between one and four inches of rain from late Friday through early Saturday.
Officials say flooding is the primary concern fro Orange County, specifically flash flooding Friday night. Residents are asked to remember to never drive through flooded roadways.
A release says public safety resources have been placed on stand-by to be ready to respond, if needed.
Preparedness can be boiled down to three areas, according to emergency services – a kit, a plan and a way to stay informed. Officials recommend 72 hours worth of supplies to be self-sufficient.
