An investigation that started with a 15-year-old high school student allegedly distributing narcotics near Cedar Ridge High School has resulted in the arrest of an additional suspect.

A release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office says investigators received information about a student distributing narcotics. Officials did emphasize the drugs were not dispensed on the high school campus.

Information gathered during the investigation led investigators to 26-year-old Joshua Lee Hilliard, according to officials, who was then taken into custody on Thursday. Investigators say Hilliard gave an address of Deer Field Trace Apartments in Mebane, but that he has ties to the Pritchard Avenue and Trinity Court areas.

Authorities say more than seven ounces of marijuana was seized in the operation.

Hilliard has been charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana, conspiracy to sell marijuana, selling a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school, sell or deliver a controlled substance to a minor, hire or use a minor to sell a controlled substance, promote drug sales by a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

Officials say the juvenile will be petitioned through the Juvenile Justice Division for possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver marijuana, conspiracy to sell marijuana, sell/deliver marijuana, selling a controlled substance within 1000 feet of a school and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Hilliard was jailed under a $30,000 bond.
