The Carrboro Film Festival was started in 2006 by Carrboro Arts Committee members Jackie Helvey and Nic Beery, with support from Board of Aldermen and the Carrboro Recreation and Parks Department. Together with a group of dedicated volunteers, they pulled together the first festival in a matter of months.
The original idea behind the Carrboro Film Festival was to promote local area shorts films that were twenty minutes or less. The first year the response was incredible, with nearly 100 entires. From those, a day filled with fabulous films was created.
That tradition has continued and expanded over the years. While we now accept worldwide submissions of any length, the Carrboro Film Festival still has a focus on locally made films, and has expanded to two days, also screening great national and international films.
In 2014 the Festival continues to grow and thrive as we again offer two days filled with workshops, a musical performance, a late night horror bl0ck, and a total of 43 films from across North Carolina and around the world.
