7/8/19 – The Meters “Cissy Strut”
I heard a great song in a movie recently, one by The Meters, a funky instrumental group out of New Orleans. I’ve always loved this song, and since it was used so prominently in the story, I can’t get it out of my head. There aren’t too many instrumentals around these days, but in my opinion, this is one of the very best ever!
7/9/19 – ZZ Top “Gimme All Your Lovin’”
It’s amazing how 3 guys can make so much music! ZZ TOP, that “little ol’ band from Texas, consists of Bill Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, and that’s it. Hill plays bass and sometimes sings. Beard keeps the beat on the drums. And Billy Gibbons is the leader of the band, playing lead guitar, providing lead vocals, and he also writes most of their stuff.
7/10/19 – Led Zeppelin “Fool In The Rain”
I was listening to Led Zeppelin in my car yesterday. (Apologies to Aaron Keck because I usually listen to his show in the afternoon, wherever I am.) I had the volume cranked up and was marveling at John Bonham’s bashing on the drums…particularly, on the song I’m about to share with you.
7/11/19 – Kansas “Carry On My Wayward Son”
A lot of good rock groups came out in the 70’s and 80’s, and one of the best first got famous in the early 70’s. They came out of…guess where? KANSAS! And they’ve put out 9 gold albums! Which means they’ve sold a ton of records! I had no idea the group was that prolific.
7/12/19 – Eddie Money “Two Tickets to Paradise”
Eddie Money’s best-known song is “Two Tickets to Paradise!” I know exactly how it got in my head this morning because I found out last night that the Tar Heel men’s basketball team will soon be headed to The Bahamas again in one of those early season tournaments. And they’re actually going to be playing on Paradise Island!
