5/19/17: The Band with special guest, Muddy Waters.   “Mannish Boy” Click to See Video

I’m doing something different this week to celebrate the School of Rock Chapel Hill Grand Opening event this Saturday (May 20th.)   I’m talking about my 10 favorite live performances, and today we arrive at  #6!

In 1976, The Band called it quits after 17 years of making music together, and being on the road all the time traveling from one show to the next.  The Canadian group decided to hang it up with a big farewell show at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco.  Now-famous filmmaker, Martin Scorsese decided to document the occasion, not only with concert footage, but also by interviewing members of the band about the experience.

Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr, Van Morrison, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Eric Clapton, and Neil Young + several other famous musicians joined in the fun. My favorite song from the show has always been when legendary blues man Muddy Waters came on stage to do “Mannish Boy.” It was so powerful! The whole show became available to the general public about a year-and-a-half later, and it was titled, “The Last Waltz.”  It’s been called one of the greatest rock documentaries ever made, and I agree. So here’s #6 on my list of Top 10 Favorite Rock Performances.  The Band, with special guest, Muddy Waters!  It’s “The Music In My Head” on 97-9 The Hill, WCHL!
