7/9/19 – ZZ Top “Gimme All Your Lovin'”

It’s amazing how 3 guys can make so much music! ZZ TOP, that “little ol’ band from Texas, consists of Bill Gibbons, Dusty Hill and Frank Beard, and that’s it. Hill plays bass and sometimes sings. Beard keeps the beat on the drums. And Billy Gibbons is the leader of the band, playing lead guitar, providing lead vocals, and he also writes most of their stuff. Gibbons also is one of the finest blues guitarists out there—except he just happens to be playing rock n roll. I always thought it was funny, too, that Gibbons and Hill are famous for their long beards…and Frank Beard is the only member of the band without a beard. Go figure.

ZZ Top first got together in Houston, Texas, back in 1969. They started having some big success back in about ’71, and I’ll never forget their early stuff, which sounded a lot like electric blues turned up notch. By the time they released their third album in 1983 called “Eliminator,” ZZ was definitely on TOP. The sold about 12 million copies of that album, which had several great songs on it. One of them is the great song I’m about to play today. ZZ Top tours pretty much everywhere. You may have seen them in concert. I understand they’re coming back to Raleigh in October. If you don’t like your music loud, you probably don’t like ZZ Top. Somebody once said, “I don’t always listen to ZZ Top, but when I do, so do my neighbors.” Crank it up! This is ZZ Top, with “Gimme All Your Lovin’!”
