Redshirt sophomore guard Latifah Coleman scored a career high of 17 points, 15 of which she collected with just over six minutes remaining in the game.
The Tar Heels made a comeback after a 14-point halftime deficit. Tierra Ruffin-Pratt led the Tar Heels with 20 points.
Senior forward Waltiea Rolle also reached double digits adding 19 points.
ACC rookie of the year forward Xylina McDaniel had 12 rebounds for the Tar Heels. Carolina outrebounded the Terps by six.
With the win the Tar Heels improved to 28-5 overall and 14-4 in the conference. The Terps fell to 24-7, 14-4.
The Tar Heels have nine total conference titles. The Terps have ten. Earlier this season, North Carolina beat Maryland by three points at home. During their second meeting the Terps crushed the Tar Heels by 26.
North Carolina will battle for the conference crown Sunday in Greensboro against one-seed Duke at 2:00 p.m.
