CHAPEL HILL–The No. 12 UNC men’s soccer team continued its tumble from the top with a Tuesday night overtime loss to No. 13 Clemson.

Carolina dropped the 2-1 decision at Fetzer Field in chilly, damp conditions. The offense was as dreary as the weather as the Tar Heels failed to capitalize on goalkeeper Brendan Moore’s continued fine play, totaling seven saves in this contest.

The shot opportunities may have been few-and-far between for the Tar Heels, but in the 68th minute the equalizer came from midfielder Verneri Valimaa.

Carolina almost walked away with its first conference win at the end of regulation. Jordan McCrary sent the ball over the wide open net off a cross. The game clock expired to send the match into overtime.

Clemson netted the game-winner just 98 seconds into the overtime frame to give UNC its first conference loss and its second loss overall.

The struggling Tar Heels next hit the road to take on Boston College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
