ORANGE COUNTY – High School Football kicked off in exciting fashion with an overtime finish in Chapel Hill and Carrboro continuing its dominant play from last year.
The Chapel Hill Tigers came one-yard short of an overtime victory as the Riverside Pirates stood the Tiger offense up on the one-yard line. At the soggy Chapel Hill High stadium, Riverside connected on a field goal in the first overtime frame to take the eventual decider at 17-14.
In Hillsborough, Carrboro and Cedar Ridge kept it close in the first half with a 13-12 score at the break. However, the second half was all Jaguars as the State Runners Up pulled away to a three-score lead at 33-12. The Red Wolves, preparing for 3A play this year, punched one more in, but couldn’t get closer. Carrboro took the 36-19 win.
Both games were broadcast on WCHL and Chapelboro.com.
