CARRBORO – Construction of a parking deck at 300 East Main Street in Carrboro will likely cause delays to traffic in the immediate area during business hours beginning Monday.

Once an hour, trucks will deliver premade portions of the parking deck that will be hoisted in place by a crane. The trucks will have to back into a transfer space just off East Main after an empty truck departs. During that time, crews will stop traffic to allow the trucks room to maneuver.

The work will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday for approximately a month.

Connecting streets could also see delays including West Rosemary, South Merritt Mill, Greensboro, Franklin, Jones Ferry, and others. Emergency crews have been instructed to choose different routes during the construction times as well.

Exact times of delivery are unknown so motorists using that route are instructed to allow extra travel time as well as find an alternate route.

***Town officials announced Monday that construction will not begin until Friday, March 1.
