The Orange County Board of Commissioners have included $15,000 in the 2017-18 budget to go toward matching donations made to the future Orange County Veteran’s Memorial.

Every time a resident makes a tax deductible donation towards the memorial, the county will match each donation with money from this fund.

Chair of the Orange County Commissioners Mark Dorosin says getting the public involved in projects like this one encourages support.

“We actually got a report on Tuesday night from the committee that’s organizing that’s saying that fundraising is really starting to flow very well, that the county match-grant has been helpful in both raising the profile of the project and in encouraging contributions,” said Dorosin.

The Veterans Memorial will pay tribute to the thousands of men and women from Orange County who served or are serving in all branches of the U.S. military.

It will be located at the Southern Human Services Campus, land donated by Orange County, and will include walking trails and exhibits.

“The site is up there, you can go out there, you can see the drawings, the flagpole is up, the area has been cleared, it’s really a beautiful site and when it’s done it’ll really be, I think, a wonderful tribute to veterans,” said Dorosin.
