Your local Board of Education recently approved the hiring of Dr. Sherron Leplin as the district’s new executive director of Exceptional Children.

Leplin is currently the principal of the UNC Hospital School, which provides year-round educational services to school-age children while they are patients so they will be able to continue their schooling with as little interruption as possible.

The Exceptional Children Division aims to ensure that students with disabilities develop intellectually, physically, emotionally, and vocationally through the provision of an individualized education program in the least restrictive environment.  Dr. Leplin brings with her a well-rounded background, including previous positions as principal with Durham Public Schools and Orange County Schools, as an Exceptional Children coordinator and assistant principal with Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools.
