CHAPEL HILL – University Mall General Manager Peter DeLeon says you won’t see the space left vacant by the Chapel Hill Public Library empty for long as Kidzu Children’s Museum is scheduled to move in some time this fall.

“I think it is a great fit for this project,” DeLeon says. “The community saw how nice it was to have the library at University Mall. Having Kidzu come in to replace them, right behind them, I think people will really embrace that.”

Kidzu started on Franklin Street in 2006 and is a hands-on museum dedicated to inspiring young children ages 0-8 and the adults in their lives to learn through play.

DeLeon says this is only a temporary fit. Kidzu is using it as an opportunity to launch its capital campaign in the attempts of building its future permanent location by 2016.

“This will really give them the opportunity to spread their wings a bit on a larger space and really get an idea on (how it works operationally) and let the Kidzu experience continue while they go through their capital campaign,” DeLeon says.

Kidzu will be using just more than 10,000 square feet in the mall; about 5,000 of that will be the museum’s exhibit.
