RALEIGH – One of the two UNC alumni stabbed near their home in Raleigh died early Wednesday morning.

According to multiple sources, Jamie Hahn and her husband Nation were stabbed allegedly by longtime friend Jonathan Wayne Broyhill, 31, who has been charged with attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury. A family friend told WCNC that Jamie died at 1:50 a.m. Wednesday which will likely change the charges against Broyhill.

According to The (Orangeburg, S.C.) Times and Democrat, Broyhill was the best man in the couple’s 2009 wedding. He was also taken to the hospital after he was found in the Hahn home with additional blood according to a search warrant released on Tuesday. He will be charged and processed at the Wake County Jail when his medical condition allows.

Police and EMS arrived in the location described by the person who called 911 after a usual Monday night dinner took an unusual turn. Police are investigating but have said “the events underlying the incident were not domestic in nature.”

Both Jamie and Nation have been working as prominent political strategists in Raleigh.
