The 5:00 News – Carrboro Mayor Damon Seils Not Running For Second Term

97.9 The Hill’s Andrew Stuckey presents the afternoon news.  Included in this edition of the news is the announcement by Carrboro Mayor Damon Seils that he will not seek reelection this fall.  Seils cited the 10 years he has served the town dating back to his days as a town councilmember, starting in April of 2013, and the need for him to move on to new challenges. Additionally, Wednesday saw a visit to Chapel Hill by state Attorney General Josh Stein.  Also included is a story on House Bill 644, which seeks to limit the influence of social media on young people.  We also hear from Piedmont Poet Laureate Dasan Ahanu about a poetry slam event at the Eno Arts Mill. In sports, Head Baseball Coach Scott Forbes discusses his teams makeup heading into the last stretch of the season, and several members of the field hockey team are celebrating a gold medal in an international competition.
