The Chapel Hill Tigers behind a 27 point night by Max Connolly and an overall solid team performance defeated the Apex Cougars 66-56 in the 8th Annual South Granville Holiday Classic.  The Tigers shot 56% from the floor and 65% in the first half and just proved to be too much for the Cougars.  Connolly alone was 9 of 11 from the field (82%), and 4 for 4 (100%) behind the 3 point arc.   Elijah Haynes scored 12 points on the evening but his spectacular ball handling skills provided much of the spark and lead both teams with 6 assists on the evening.  The much improved play of center David Elien proved to be dramatic in the Tigers much improved play over the past 4 games.

The Tigers will play in the tournament’s winner’s bracket Friday night at 9:00 p.m.  Chapel Hill sets at the top of the Big 8-3A Conference standings alongside the Northern Knights with an undefeated 3-0 conference record.  WCHL 97.9 The Hill will broadcast the meeting between those two teams on January 12th when they face off at Northern.

WCHL 97.9 The Hill’s next broadcast will air next Friday night live from East Chapel Hill High School when the Hillside Hornets visit the Wildcats for a 7:00 p.m. tipoff.
