On July 9, 2014, Richard Southall, Professor of Sports Management at the University of South Carolina and Director of the College Sport Research Institute, appeared before the US Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation to “examine promoting the well-being and academic success of
college athletes.” Being the last speaker, he shared with the committee that he was “disappointed” that the Senators as well as College Athletic leaders in general did not seem to be interested in taking an honest, critical look at the current Collegiate Athletic model in the US. He joined Professor Tuggle in the studio this week to expand on his concerns with the NCAA and what should be done.
