Today is November 9, 2015.  There was a mysterious light in the southern California sky on Saturday night.  We also learn about a gift exchange scam on Facebook.  Plus, pigs are awesome.

Mysterious Light

Out in southern California on Saturday night, stargazers saw a mysterious light.

Law enforcement agencies were flooded with calls.  The mysterious light streaked across hundreds of miles of sky.  A Navy representative told the San Diego Union-Tribune that the light was the result of a routine Trident missile test-fire.

But, there are skeptics.

Evidently, skeptical people are plentiful in California.  Since the 1950s, 11,092 UFO sightings have been reported in California.  That’s the most for any state.  Florida is second with 5,017 sightings.

Check out images of that mysterious light from social media.

Gift Exchange Scam

If you are active on Facebook, you have probably seen a post about the Secret Sister Gift Exchange.  The premise claims that you send in one gift worth $10 dollars to a stranger and receive as many as 36 gifts in return.

It is a scam.

According to Snopes, the gift exchange is “simply a repackaging of age-old chain letter gifting schemes.”  The scam-exposing website continues to explain:

“In short, the problem wasn’t whether any one person expected  to receive presents back — it was the inherently unfulfillable promise that a $10 buy in would result in hundreds of dollars worth of returns for others. Whether or not a user participated “honestly” they had no hand in ensuring those who bought in under them would receive any return on their initial investment, and the risk in question problematic precisely because it was undertaken on behalf of other folks.”

The United States Postal Service notes that this sort of exchange is illegal.
