Charlie Sheen is HIV Positive

Charlie Sheen announced that he is HIV Positive on The Today Show Tuesday morning.  The announcement confirmed rumors that had been swirling around the actor.

“It’s a hard three letters to absorb. It’s a turning point in one’s life,” Charlie Sheen told Today’s Matt Lauer.

Lauer grilled Charlie Sheen and his doctor, Robert Huizenga.  Dr. Huizenga explains, “Charlie does not have AIDS.”

HIV is the virus that leads to AIDS.  There is no cure.  But, medical advances have made the illness manageable.

Charlie Sheen says that he made announcement to, “Put a stop to this onslaught, this barrage of attacks and of sub-truths and very harmful and mercurial stories that are about me, threatening the health of so many others that couldn’t be further from the truth.”

According to Charlie Sheen, he has paid about $10 million to keep the illness secret.

The actor says he was diagnosed about four years ago.  Over the years, Sheen has gotten headlines for erratic behavior.  USA Today shared a timeline.
