9/8/17: Mel & Tim “Backfield in Motion”

Today’s “Music in My Head” is easy enough to explain. It came from a pretty simple place: I went to sleep last night thinking about football! I’ve been getting ready for WCHL pregame coverage so, naturally, I woke up this morning ready to get my backfield in motion thanks to Mel Hardin and Tim McPherson!

As I’ll bet you already know, Mel & Tim were a great soul duo back in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s who had a song called “Starting All Over Again,” but they just might be better known for “Backfield in Motion,” the song rattling around in my head today! It was 1969 when that one came out, and because of the obvious football reference, it’s an easy song to come back to when football season rolls around in the fall – especially when one of our running backs moves a split-second before he’s supposed to move!
