9/1/17: John Lennon “NOBODY TOLD ME (There Would Be Days Like This!)”
If you’re a John Lennon fan, you know he could write some really deep, meaningful lyrics. He could also come out with some that were ridiculous and random, and that made no sense whatsoever. Check out “I Dig A Pony” for a good example of that. “Everybody’s talking and nobody says a word. There’s Nazis in the bathroom just below the stairs.” A couple of lines there from a song called “NOBODY TOLD ME.” That’s what I had in my head when I first woke up this morning. I have no idea why that song was running through my brain. Another interesting line in the song is “There’s UFO’s over New York, and I ain’t too surprised.” Reportedly, that’s a reference to when John says he actually saw a UFO in 1974. Who knows with John?
I heard that he actually wrote the song for Ringo Starr. He wanted Ringo to have it to record. In the meantime, he did some versions of it himself, presumably to give his former Beatle bandmate an example of how it should go. After John was killed, though, Ringo said he didn’t want to record any songs John had written because it would b too emotional. So Lennon’s record company released his version, instead, because—let’s face it—it’s a good song. Anyway, I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately, and here it is: “NOBODY TOLD ME (There Would Be Days Like This!)” John Lennon, with “THE MUSIC IN MY HEAD” on 97.9 The Hill…WCHL.
