3/16/17: KC & The Sunshine Band “Get Down Tonight”
Remember KC & The Sunshine Band? Those guys were absolutely dominant back in the days of disco! So many big hit records, full of party music. It was always difficult to stand still when you heard KC and the band hit a strong groove. The singer and leader of the band, Harry Wayne Casey (otherwise known as KC), founded the band in Hialeah, Florida while working at a record store.
The band was based in Florida, where it gets the “Sunshine,” but KC owned a house right here in Chapel Hill. In fact, I’ve seen him a couple times in the grocery store, but both times he was pushing a grocery cart and in the middle of a phone conversation. I didn’t want to violate his privacy, so I never had the chance to say hello. Even though I wanted to.
KC and the guys gave us countless hits, but the one I always think of is “Get Down Tonight!” So get down, tonight!
