3/13/17: Kenny Rogers & The First Edition “I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)”

Kenny Rogers is a country music superstar with a string of hit records a mile long. “The Gambler,” for example. Thanks to that memorable song, everybody knows that you’ve got to know when to hold ‘em, and know when to fold ‘em. Not to mention knowing when to walk away, and when to run.

Before his days as a country icon, Kenny had a rock n’ roll band called “The First Edition.” After a while, since he was the lead singer, they became known as “Kenny Rogers & The First Edition.” They had song big songs as a band, songs like “But You Know I Love You” and “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town.” One that might surprise you comes from the summer of ’68, downright psychedelic and positively freaky song that became known to a whole new generation decades later when it was featured in “The Big Lebowski,” a Cohen Brothers movie with a cult following. Playing during a trippy bowling dream featuring Valkyries and Saddam Hussein renting shoes, “I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)” is a musical highlight in a movie with an already stellar soundtrack.

Personally, I think the song tied the whole movie together, if you know what I mean.
