Remaining unbeaten in the ACC, No. 6 UNC women’s soccer has continued to its ninth straight win over the Duke Blue Devils Sunday in Durham.

Sophomore forward Emily Bruder led the shut-out victory with another breakout game, making this her second consecutive match scoring two goals. Freshman forward Alex Kimball scored her first career goal to make the final 3-0 tally towards the end of the 74th minute.

Sunday’s win makes the fifth shutout of the season for the Heels, and their second in conference play.

Head Coach Anson Dorrance stepped on the field to coach with a heavy heart, following the loss of his mother earlier that week. The Heels wore black armbands during Sunday’s match to support their coach and each other as one family, making the victory over their rivals that much sweeter.

“The improvement of all the kids from the beginning of the season, the adversity we had, to put ourselves in this position, I’m just unbelievably excited and proud,” Dorrance said. “And then to see the kids wearing the armbands for me and my family was significant.”

Now ranked 10-2-1 on the season with seven ACC wins, UNC hosts No. 2 Florida State with a match Thursday at 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field. The Seminoles are the only other unbeaten team in the ACC, and defeated the Tar Heels in their last match in 2011. You can catch the game with a live television broadcast on the ACC’s Regional Sports Network, as well as ESPN3.

Carolina also hosts another Florida visitor with a match against Miami Sunday afternoon at 1.
