MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.– Freshman Stephanie Mavunga had 20 points and 12 rebounds to power No. 14 North Carolina to a 74-66 victory over No. 10 South Carolina Wednesday night.

The win improved UNC to 10-2 on the year and handed USC its first loss of the season as the Gamecocks fell to 9-1.

Diamond DeShields had a solid game, adding 17 points and Xylina McDaniel posted 14 for the Tar Heels.

South Carolina struggled to keep up with the high-powered Tar Heels Wednesday night at the Myrtle BeachConvention Center.

During the game, South Carolina’s coaches joined UNC coaches in wearing orange ribbons to support Hatchell’s fight against cancer.

Next up for the Tar Heels will be a return home to play High Point at 1 p.m. Saturday in Carmichael Arena.
