CHAPEL HILL– The North Carolina women’s basketball team fell to No. 13 in the latest AP Top 25 poll released Monday.

The 17-5 Tar Heels dropped seven places after a rough week containing a pair of home losses to Syracuse and Miami.

Other ranked ACC teams include No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 5 Duke, No.10 Maryland. N.C. State checks in one place below Carolina at No. 14 with a 19-3 overall record.

As for the men, despite a successful week that included a win at Georgia Tech and a home victory over rival N.C. State, the Tar Heels remain unranked at 14-7.

But undefeated ACC newcomer Syracuse has finally taken the top spot in the polls following an Arizona upset and an impressive overtime victory versus Duke in front of a record number in attendance in the Carrier Dome on Saturday night. The Orange were unanimously selected as the best team in the nation.

Other teams of note include No. 11 Duke. The Blue Devils actually moved up six places despite the defeat at Syracuse. Conference member Virginia is getting noticed. The Cavaliers check in at No. 20 in the AP poll this week while the Panthers of Pittsburgh hold on to a No. 25 ranking.
