Today is Friday, September 9, 2016. What’s wrong with kumquat? Barack Obama gets a parasite. A Coke display offends the memory of 9/11.
Kumquat
Her license plate says KUMQUAT. For years, Lori Ann Phillips gave her cars fruit-themed names. Mango for a maroon Jeep and Papaya for a white Ford truck. When she moved to North Carolina and got a new Toyota RAV4, she decided to name it Kumquat. She even got the license plate to match.
She drove the SUV with the KUMQUAT license plate for more than a decade.
Then, she got a letter from the DOT. “We are in receipt of complaints stating that the plate is offensive and in poor taste.” She 30 days to explain the plate or it would be revoked.
Eventually, it all got sorted out.
@raleighagenda #NCDMV verified a kumquat is in fact a fruit and has contacted the owner to let her know that no further action is necessary.

A Barack Obama Parasite
The president has his own parasite. Scientists have named a tiny parasitic flatworm that lives in turtles’ blood, Baracktrema obamai.
Thomas Platt, a retired biology professor from Saint Mary’s College in Indiana says it is not an insult, but an honor. Platt says the worm reminds him of the president. “It’s long. It’s thin. And it’s cool as hell.”
Offensive Cokes
A Coke display at a Wal-Mart in Florida has been removed. It depicted the World Trade Center towers built with Coke Zero packages. Sunday will be the 15th anniversary of the attacks on 9/11.
