Winter Nights Dance Party @ The Baxter– January 6th 
From 10 PM to 2 AM, The Baxter will be holding yet another drop-of-a-hat dance party. This time, it’s to end the holidays and kick off 2017 better than 2016 seemed to end up. Featuring DJ Jaesunel spinning tunes for the first time in the hallowed halls of the Baxter as well as traditional drink specials. Michael Ode Quartet– January 7th
Beyu Caffe, known for its New American stylings and finer food flair, will be hosting Michael Ode this Saturday from 7 PM to 10 PM. Ode is a native to North Carolina and is currently in his fourth year at Oberlin College and Conservatory, studying under the legendary Billy Hart, and is in the process of releasing his first EP as a bandleader. Chosen as an Honorary Jazz Mentor at the Stanford Jazz Workshop for 2016 and 2017, the Michael Ode Quartet will be putting on the sort of show that is not to be missed.

Ultimate Comics Jeremy Whitley Signing– January 7th
Comic book writer and creator of the series “Princeless” Jeremy Whitley, who lives in Raleigh, will be signing copies of Wasp #1, “Princeless” and “My Little Pony – Friends Forever” this Saturday at all three Ultimate Comics locations. Whitley will be at the Durham/Chapel Hill location from 10:30 to 11:30, Cary from 12:00 to 2:00, and Raleigh from 3:00 to 5:00. Whitley is well-known for his efforts to include well-written female characters and characters of color in his comics, and his work on “Princeless” has paved the way for Whitley’s first work as a solo writer on “The Unstoppable Wasp,” which released its first issue this past week to rave reviews.

Transactors Improv for Families– January 7th
This 45-minute performance features short-form improv – individual scenes running 5-10 minutes and based on audience suggestions. Everything is made up on the spot, and the content is appropriate for children and adults.

 “Extended Remix: Contemporary Artists Meet Japanese”– January 8th 
In this unique exhibition, coming to a close with the “Last Look” tour led by Ackland curator Bradley Bailey, Ackland hosted something truly unique. In an “Extended Remix,” original eighteenth and nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock prints were commissioned to be “completed” by six contemporary artists. Involved were Paul Binnie, a master woodblock printer, Japanese painter Akira Yamaguchi, American designer and performer Ely Kim, experimental photographer Gregory Vershbow, and the creative team known as “Studio Swine,” consisting of British artist Alexander Groves and Japanese architect Azusa Murakami.
