The Carolina family suffered a loss today when it was reported that longtime UNC broadcaster Woody Durham passed away at the age of 76.

WCHL’s Ron Stutts worked closely with Woody for eight years at WCHL and then loosely for more than 20 years during the Durham’s time as a broadcaster for Tar Heel Sports Network. For many, Woody’s broadcasts were preferred over the television announcers. People would mute their televisions and turn up the sound on WCHL, allowing Woody to be the voice of Tar Heel athletics.

One of the many people affected by Woody’s broadcasts was WCHL’s news director Blake Hodge, who dreamed of a career in broadcasting after growing up with the Tar Heel Sports Network.

After the announcement about Woody’s passing, Ron and Blake spent some time reflecting on his impact on UNC broadcasts and how it inspired a future generation of Tar Heels fans.
