Dr. Deborah Bender is Monday’s Hometown Hero.
Bender volunteers in Mimi Collins’ ESL classroom at Culbreth Middle School. She goes to the class every Wednesday and helps students with science, math, and reading.
She really loves sitting and reading books with children.
Dr. Bender is a retired UNC professor. She worked at the university in the School of Public Health for more than 30 years.
