Even though the temperature is expected to be back in the 90s next week, the summer IS actually coming to an end;  school is back in session, the UNC football season begins this weekend, and soon enough the temperatures will cool to a crisp; the leaves will start changing colors and the autumn sky will glow a deep Carolina blue. We promise…it is coming!

So today we are taking a look back at our summer feature: “Good News Friday.”

The idea came from one of our long-time listeners, who said, “With all the bad news in the world these days, it sure would be nice to turn on the radio knowing that there is still good news out there to report.” Thus, the aptly named, ‘Good News Friday’ story of the week was born.

This summer, we profiled an amazing Chapel Hill resident who enrolled at Durham Tech and turned a second chance at college into a transfer degree from UNC, and upon graduation with honors, an acceptance to graduate school at Harvard, where he starts classses next week!

We highlighted one of the most innovative and forward thinking local charities, The SKJAJA Fund, and an amazing local farm that literally transplants traditions.

We remembered the 2014 ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’ and the continued importance that fundraising-for-research has on the battle to fight ALS.

We celebrated local businesses and a volunteer organization that are making a significant change for the good through the simple concept of a living wage.

And we talked UNC football; and recognized a whole bunch of Tar Heels in the Olympics!
