I hope that this column finds everyone off to a great 2013 and having enjoyed a little touch of this snow and winter blast we received last night from mother nature! With being said, I wanted to follow-up on a great non-profit that I featured back in early December and provide you a winter update. We have had an extremely positive response to this column on non-profits and charity organizations, which is due to you our readers, so thank you thank you for your feedback and passion. If you are interested in having your organization recognized on this column or on our non profit spotlight segment, please contact me at bchacos@chapelboro.com or (919) 240-6037. – See more at: https://chapelboro.com/Non-Profit-Spotlight-by-Brian-Chacos/14881977#sthash.Z2wWqWdE.dpuf

First and foremost, I hope you had a wonderful holiday season and a great start to 2013. Looking back on the year, Kids2Carolina had a great first year! We were able to send over 1400 kids to football games this past year. These are kids that traveled from all across the state to come visit UNC, from southwest Virginia to Asheville from Boone to Wilmington.

Our mission at Kids2Carolina is to enrich the lives of underprivileged youth by providing access to a world-class university and state of the art athletic venues. Through attending athletic events and experiencing a “Carolina Game day”, kids in our community will have the opportunity to be a part of a college setting, inspiring them to be on a path to higher education!

We felt that we are off to a great start but, we are nowhere near satisfied. We could not have gotten this far without your contribution and we are grateful to have such passionate support.

This spring, we would like to send kids to Boshamer stadium to watch the #1 Baseball team in the country, in arguably the most beautiful college baseball venue there is. We are currently nailing down logistics with the UNC administration but, we are taking donations to help us get kids on campus so that they can have a unique opportunity to visit a world class educational institution. If you are interested in donating please visit our website.

We also of course are accepting basketball and soon, baseball ticket donations which can be mailed to Kids2Carolina, P. O Box 9135 Chapel Hill 27514. These will either be given directly to youth organization that we have already cleared by us to host kids to the games or auctioned off and in turn the auction money will go to buying more tickets for kids.

We are also looking for anyone who would like to help support the program with their time and effort. So if you are interested in helping out with volunteering, please contact me for logistical information (kids2carolina@gmail.com)!

You can follow Kids2Carolina on the web. Or on Facebook and Twitter.

In closing, we hope that you and your families have a blessed and prosperous 2013 and also look forward to much success from our lady and men Tar Heel sports teams!

Best Regards,

Cody Thompson
