Album cover for “What a Time to be Alive”

Local indie rock band Superchunck released their new album today, titled “What a Time to be Alive.”

Formed in 1989, Superchunk has been a staple of the Chapel Hill music scene since their foundation. The band, composed of singer-guitarist Mac McCaughan, guitarist Jim Wilbur, singer-bassist Laura Ballance and drummer Jon Wurster, released their first album (“Superchunk”) back in 1990 and have traveled the globe to promote their music ever since. After taking a short break in 2001, “What a Time to be Alive” marks the band’s third album since 2010.

The band’s newest album is heavily influenced by the current political climate and has received rave reviews from Rolling Stones and the Chicago Tribune.

Despite being a national brand, Superchunk still knows where home is. The band will play at Carrboro’s Cat’s Cradle on Friday, April 27, to promote their new album before traveling across the seas to the UK and Germany.
