A local Chapel Hill dog won the Toy Group competition at the 142nd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City last week.

Handled by Esteban Farias for owner Carolyn Koch, “Biggie” the Pug took home the title in a field of 23 Best of Breed winners that comprised the group. The three-year-old male’s official name for the competition was GCHS Hill Country’s Puttin’ On The Ritz and was bred by Kristy and Kevin Ratliff.

“Winning a Westminster Group is the culmination of years of hard work, training, showing, and breeding. Congratulations to the owners, breeders, and handler,” said Westminster Kennel Club Director of Communications Gail Miller Bisher.

Biggie was not ranked in the DN Magazine Top 20 Dogs heading into the competition. After winning the Toy Group, he competed in the Best of Show portion but lost to a bichon frise, GCHP CH Belle Creek’s All I Care About Is Love.
