This Sunday is National Ice Cream Day.  Sure you can grab a free vanilla cone at McDonald’s but with all the incredible local ice cream shops right here in Orange County, we think you’ll find a scoop or two worth sharing. Check out these 10 local spots.

Maple View Farm Ice Cream

Celebrate National Ice Cream Day at Maple View Farm in Hillsborough this Sunday. Enjoy live music, games, face painting and of course ice cream. Festivities kick off at noon and go till 9 pm.

Market Street Coffee and Ice Cream

Enjoy your coffee and ice cream at 1 of their 4 locations. They don’t make their ice cream in-house but they serve local favorites from The Parlour in Durham and Homeland Creamery in Julian, NC.

Yogurt Pump

This local family-owned fro-yo shop has been doing business on Franklin St. since the ’80s.  Known around town as “YoPo,” this local shop serves 8 different flavors of frozen yogurt that rotate regularly.

Sugarland

It’s all about the gelato at Sugarland. The display counter alone will make you drool but just wait till you take a bite. They offer 24 flavors every day and introduce new flavors monthly.

The Parlour 

This downtown Durham staple is the place to go when the ice cream cravings hit. Vegan friendly! They offer plenty of vegan options made from coconut milk. Their flavors are constantly changing, new flavors this week include; vegan banana-coconut ice cream with peanut butter cookie crumble, mocha chip cookies (not vegan), vegan dark chocolate chunk cookies, blackberry and roasted peach ice cream! Pine Cone

You don’t have to drive to Hillsborough for Maple View Ice Cream. Visit Pine Cone at Brightleaf Square in Durham, they carry all the flavors that you love.

La Monarca

Have you ever tried a Paleta ? These Mexican fresh-fruit ices are homemade and super fresh. By all the five star ratings, La Monarca in Durham is the place to go for all those sweet cravings. While you’re there try one of their frozen bananas or any of the fresh made ice cream flavors, and there are a ton of them.

Locopops

Just like their tag line says, “A fun and funky culinary adventure”. You will find plenty of vegan and vegetarian options and some cool unique weekly and monthly specials, like the key lime pie pop. All their dairy comes from antibiotic free cows, yay!

La Vita Dolce Espresso & Gelato Cafe

This Italian treat is made fresh right at La Vita Dolce. Choose from a variety of exotic flavors like; sweet corn and spicy mango. Don’t worry if you don’t want to step out of your comfort zone they also offer all the traditional flavors you love.

The Goat at Fearrington Village

Grab a scoop of one of the nine rotating flavors of housemade gelato. They use all-natural ingredients and the flavors change seasonally. Enjoy live music from 5 pm – 8 pm at Roost enjoy wood-fired pizza and save room for dessert!

S & T’s Soda Shoppe

Have to give a shoutout to S & T’s Soda Shoppe in Pittsboro. Unfortunately they will be closed till July 18 but with over 32 flavors of ice cream you’ll want to add them to your summer bucket list.
