If you’re a fan of live theatre, this week is a big one in our community.

At PlayMakers Repertory Company, it’s your last week to see “My Fair Lady,” the classic musical that’s wrapping up PlayMakers’ mainstage season. But this is also your only week to catch “Mr. Joy,” the final show in PlayMakers’ PRC2 series. Written by Daniel Beaty and directed by PlayMakers artistic director Vivienne Benesch, “Mr. Joy” features a tour de force performance from Tangela Large (last seen at PRC in “Detroit ’67”), playing multiple characters in a diverse and close-knit Harlem neighborhood dealing with the (possible) disappearance of a local shopkeeper.

Tangela Large and Vivienne Benesch discussed “Mr. Joy” with Aaron Keck on WCHL.

“Mr. Joy” runs from Wednesday through Sunday, April 26-30. You can find more info and purchase tickets online at PlayMakersRep.org.

Also in town this weekend, the curtain’s going up on Chapel Hill High School’s spring musical, “Shrek.” Based on the blockbuster movie, it’s one of the most popular musicals of this century so far – and director Thomas Drago says it’s also CHHS’ most ambitious production yet, with a large cast and crew, big set pieces and costumes galore.

Bram Raets (who plays Shrek), Kiri Morrison (who plays Fiona), Weston Barker (who plays Lord Farquaad), and director Thomas Drago joined Aaron Keck on WCHL to discuss the show.

“Shrek” opens Thursday, April 27, and runs through Saturday the 29th, with shows at 7:30 all three nights. Get tickets and more info online at HanesTheatre.org.
